vt6415 kernel panic when enumerating IDE devices

Even though the developers tried to resolve the known issues with pata controller vt6415, I still had Ubuntu 11.04 2.6.38-8 x64 panic on enumerating IDE devices.  The solution was boot parameter libata.dma=1.

    It solved the issue for me, thanks.
    Until now tested only on a Centos 6.2 i686 LiveCD. More testing on the way.
    Hardware: Asus M4A88TD-M with a Sempron 145 (no core unlock possible with my sample….)
    Kernel of this LiveCD: 2.6.32-220.el6.i686

    Can you supply more details( on the side effects), plz?

  2. I have not seen any side effects. This machine is constantly in heavy use as a server and media center.
